While farmers in Andhra Pradesh are set to lose production up to 50 per cent following a failed kharif season, cottonseed industry is busy collecting information from seed growers across the State and in Gujarat about the likely loss. North Zone: Cotton traded steady tone across major spot markets of north India on Monday. In Punjab , ready delivery cotton traded at Rs 3,690- 3,705 a maund. In Haryana, it offered at Rs 3,660- 3,675 while in Rajasthan, ready delivery cotton quoted at Rs 3,580- 3,675 a maund. Central Zone: Cotton spot prices steady across west India market on Tuesday. Gujarat weather clears, The Sankar-6 variety was traded at Rs 39,500-39,800 a candy of 356 kg. Low-grade cotton sold at Rs 33,000-35,000 a candy. Raw cotton fetched Rs 800-950 for a maund of 20 kg. While in Maharashtra the price stood at Rs 38,500-39,000 a candy. South Zone: Cotton spot price easy tone across the major trading centers of south India.  US Cotton Futures : New York cotton falls on month-end liquidation, profit-taking: NOVEMBER 01, 2011 - Cotton futures closed lower Monday on month-end liquidation and profit-taking as the market eased for the first time in seven sessions and may consolidate after its recent surge, analysts said. The key December cotton contract on ICE Futures US dropped 2.08 cents or almost 2 percent to finish at $1.0229 per lb, moving from $1.0114 to $1.0464. On Friday, the contract ended at $1.0437 in the highest settlement close for spot cotton in six weeks. For the month, the spot cotton market was up 2.1 percent. Total volume traded Monday hit over 13,200 lots, about 10 below the 30-day norm, preliminary Thomson Reuters data showed. "We backed off. There was no fundamental reason to hold the market up," said Mike Stevens, an independent cotton analyst from Mandeville , Louisiana . The dollar jumped and global stocks slumped due to fresh worries about the viability of last week's eurozone debt deal to solve the crisis. Cotton also came under pressure from the start of the investment fund roll as players began moving positions out of the December contract and into the forward months. "All these fund rolls are starting this week," a dealer said. The market also kept an eye on the bankruptcy filed by US brokerage MF Global. "It's always a sad day when things like this happen," said Stevens. Technically, dealers said the December contract remained well supported in the area around $1.01 where possible import orders are lurking. Open interest in cotton, usually taken as an indicator of investor exposure in cotton, stood at 161,414 lots as of October 287, its highest level since June 9, exchange data showed. Total volume traded Friday in the cotton market was 26,389 lots, down from the previous tally of 25,566 lots, ICE futures US data reported. Pakistan : Trading remains range-bound at cotton market: KARACHI : Trading remained range-bound with sizeable influx of cottonseed in Sindh and Punjab amid higher volumes and firm spot rate, traders at the Karachi Cotton Association (KCA) said on Monday. The KCA kept the spot rate unchanged at Rs 5,750 per maund to provide an opportunity to weak ginners for getting good returns, floor brokers said. They said buyers purchased lint of all grades in Punjab and Sindh stations while ginners offloaded poor grades on buyers' price. They said fine lint fetched slightly lower prices as compared to previous day trading around Rs 6,000 per maund. The mills and spinners bought around 95 percent of the total market volumes to fortify their long positions in Punjab and Sindh, said floor brokers. Cottonseed changed hands at around Rs 5,000 per maund to 5,350 per maund in Punjab stations while in Sindh stations, cottonseed fetched Rs 4,200 per maund to Rs 4,750 per maund, floor brokers said. "Due to stability in prices at New York Futures market the local physical prices also remained firm with some positive impact on the market sentiments," said analyst Shakeel Ahmad. "New York Cotton prices remained in the positive zone because of better speculations and balanced outlook of market sentiments on positive world cotton trade." He said according to the Textile Ministry, it would call a real stakeholders meeting after Eidul Azha in order to rectify the wrong estimates for 2011-12 crop size. He said availability grades (1505 grade I, 1467 grade II and 1503 grade III) have been slow due to non-availability of fine grade cottonseed. He said prices of low grade maintained their level because of higher demand of fine grade during the trading session. He said buyers in Punjab and Sindh made some compensatory deals at around Rs 5,150 per maund while spinners bought odd lots at around Rs 5,250 per maund to Rs 5,350 per maund. He said around 24,000 bales in Sindh and Punjab stations changed hands on ready delivery basis, which fetched better price than spot rate. China : China's PMI drops to 50.4 percent in October: BEIJING, Nov. 1 (Xinhua) -- China's Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) dropped to 50.4 percent in October after rising for two consecutive months, down 0.8 percentage points from September, the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing (CFLP) said Tuesday. The CFLP report said the drop indicated the country's economic growth might continue to slow down in the fourth quarter but the trend of a moderate economic increase would not change fundamentally. It estimated the country's gross domestic product, or GDP, would grow around 9.2 percent in 2011. PMI is a gauge of manufacturing expansion. A reading below 50 indicates contraction from the previous month, while a reading above 50 indicates expansion. China 's PMI had declined for four months in a row to a low of 50.7 percent in July before rebounding to 50.9 percent in August. The manufacturing index from the logistics federation is based on a survey of purchasing managers in more than 820 companies in 20 industries.
